Making the World a Little Greener…
Last year U-46 schools were challenged to do what many families across the district are doing – cut down on energy use. It was part of the Plant Operations “Energy Efficiency Incentive Program.” The goal of the program, which ran through the 2010-11 school year, was to save money on electricity by encouraging schools to conserve energy where they could – and they did!
The total overall reduction of 1,763,400 kwH were avoided, resulting in a $158,706 cost avoidance to the district. This savings translates into funds that are not spent on energy available for other needs.
As a reward for their efforts the schools will be recognized at the October 24 School Board meeting and receive a monetary award of $1,000 for each of the top five elementary schools, $3,000 for the top middle school, and $5,000 for the top high school.
The following schools were recognized:
Elementary Schools – Fox Meadow Elementary, Garfield Elementary, Ontarioville Elementary, Oakhill Elementary, and Wayne Elementary
Middle School – Kenyon Woods Middle School
High School – Larkin High School
