When it comes to finding places online, MapQuest.com is widely regarded as the leading Web Map Service and map publisher in the world. First founded as Cartographic Services in 1967 in Chicago, the company was renamed MapQuest in 1999 and acquired by America Online Inc in 2000. Upon acquiring MapQuest, AOL introduced satellite images as part of the service but soon removed them. AOL resumed using satellite images in September 2006 as part of a new Beta program.
