TDS Telecommunications is a chip off the old bell. The company (known as TDS Telecom) is the fixed-line telecommunications subsidiary of Chicago-based Telephone and Data Systems. TDS Telecom maintains more than 750,000 local access lines in 28 states through more than 100 incumbent local-exchange carriers (ILEC). It primarily provides local phone service to residential and business customers in rural and suburban communities. TDS does about one-third of its business in Wisconsin; Michgan, Tennessee, and Minnesota are also key states. The company also offers long-distance and Internet access.
