First Community Bancshares, Inc.

fcbinc.com

From our humble beginnings, First Community Bank has grown to a substantial financial institution in the West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee areas. In 1874, the Bank of Princeton opened its doors in Princeton, West Virginia. At that time, the town consisted of a courthouse, post office, store, tan yard, shoemaker's shop and a dozen or so homesteads. The opening was a historic event since it was one of the first four banks to be chartered in West Virginia, and the first to be chartered in Southern West Virginia. The first bank was located in a primitive setting. The building was a one-story, 15x18 foot frame that also housed a general store and the community post office. The bank's cash was kept in an old leather trunk and important documents were divided among the bank's Directors, who usually carried the papers in the tops of their hats.
