The 1990's saw a major expansion in the quality and quantity of local news produced at News 19. On January 25th 1993 News 19 launched the first morning news cast in the La Crosse Eau Claire market. Daybreak began a new tradition for local news viewers beginning at 6:30am that Monday morning. Gillian Kirk and Scott Shaw were the original news and weather anchors. Viewers asked for more and in 1996 Daybreak expanded to one full hour. Today the newscast is 90 minutes long. Daybreak continues to be popular with a strong local morning audience.
