1974 by Mr. Mauro Sponchiado and Mr. Jose Martinussi who took the initials of their names to form the company's name. First area of business was service steam turbines in sugar refineries nearby Sertozinho, Brazil. Smar added in-house electronics expertise when electronic speed regulators were introduced for steam turbines in 1978. It soon developed electronic controls for cane cutters and crushers as well.
