Stater Bros. Markets has been providing quality, name brand products to the public since 1936. The first Stater Bros. Markets was opened in August 17, 1936, by twin brothers Leo and Cleo Stater. During the Second World War, Cleo and Leo served in the Army Air Corps while their parents ran the business. They were later joined by their brother, Lavoy. 2004 saw the acquisition of Santee Dairies, a state-of-the-art dairy, which operates now under the name Heartland Farms. Stater Bros. was also awarded twice in a decade by Grocery Headquarters Magazine, Supermarket Retailer of the Year. In 2005, Stater Bros. made the Fortune 500 list for the first time, also being the first Inland Empire company to make it to the list. Today, with annual sales of $3 billion, Stater Bros. is the largest privately owned supermarket chain in the heartland of Southern California, with locations in San Bernardino County, Riverside County, Orange County, Los Angeles County, San Diego County, Kern County and headquarters in Colton, California. With 162 full service supermarkets operating in six Southern California counties and employing 16,000 people, Stater Bros. has continued its legacy through its low cost and high quality products.
