Hobby Lobby began operation August 3, 1972, with 300 square feet of retail space, located in North Oklahoma City. This was a retail outgrowth of Greco Products, a miniature picture frame company, founded by David Green in 1970. In January 1973, the operation was moved to a house near N.W. 23rd and Western, and the amount of retail space was increased to approximately 1,000 square feet. David Green earned his credentials in the retail business through many years of employment with various retail chains - thirteen of which were spent with T.G.and;Y. Stores - serving as Store Manager and later Area Supervisor. This modest beginning has grown into 378 stores (as of June 2006) with projected sales of 1.65 billion dollars in 2006. The firm operates in a 29 state area, including:Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
