From 1957 to 1962, MOCON's original infrared H2O technology was developed by Les Demorest, et al, a physicist working at General Mills, Inc. in Minneapolis, MN. Soon after, Mr. Demorest founded "Demorest Instruments Co." to develop and sell the first dynamic Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR) permeation instrument, the IRD-2C. After going public as Modern Controls, Inc. in 1968, the Company developed an O2TR permeation technology with a Hersch cell.
