Jigsaw Launches "Company Wiki" to Make it Easy for Any Company to Broadcast its Business Information Across the Web
SAN MATEO, CA - November 11, 2008 - With the announcement of its Open Data Initiative this summer, Jigsaw began the charge to democratize data-making its database of 1.5 million company contacts open-source-available for anyone or any business to download. Continuing on this mission, Jigsaw (www.jigsaw.com), a leading provider of business information and data services that uniquely leverages user-generated content contributed by its global business-to-business community, launches "Company Wiki", an open-source resource for companies to promote and discover business information. Unlike most company listings that have a gating system for inclusion, with Jigsaw's Company Wiki, every business now has a new vehicle to promote their own business information and increase their opportunities of being found online.
"Be sure to be listed. That's the message we want every company to hear, from the national consulting firm to the upstart catering group. Every business has a place on Jigsaw's Company Wiki," said Jim Fowler, Jigsaw CEO and co-founder. "There are no closed doors or barriers to entry. Company Wiki is an open invitation. And by making information collaborative, transparent and open, not only will it increase accessibility but also accuracy."
Company Wiki entries can include: a general overview; logo; company history; key people; competitors; corporate culture; recent noteworthy news coverage; as well as links to Web pages and external articles. Information is robust and organized in a single location; in one search users see a detailed description of each target company, its business contact information, company organizational charts and a list of employees.
By posting on Jigsaw's Company Wiki, businesses share information with one of the Web's largest and most active business communities, with members totaling 600,000 B-to-B professionals. Company Wiki posters also reach the broader online community via search and search rankings, making it easier for potential customers, job seekers and anyone conducting business research to find their company. Companies can also update and edit their listings in Company Wiki, ensuring that the information distributed is correct and up-to-date.
"The Web has moved information beyond the static and one-dimensional. With Jigsaw's wiki-like approach to marketing individual companies, information becomes more relevant," said Fowler. "By making businesses more visible and top-of-mind, Jigsaw's Company Wiki creates an additional avenue for exposure in a competitive marketplace."
