Annette Sherman Dilworth DeRito, 55, who helped in refugee programs and later worked in the inspector general's office of two federal agencies, died April 18 of cancer at her home in Olney.

Ms. DeRito was born in Washington and was a graduate of Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School. As a sophomore at Loyola University in New Orleans, she toured Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia at the height of the Vietnam War.
