This year, The Open University is celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the granting of its Royal Charter on April 23, 1969.
In the autumn of the following year, as a young PhD student seeking to earn a bit of extra cash, I applied for a post as a part- time tutor for this new and unknown university.
I knew little about it other than being aware of its initial title of 'The University of the Air' because of its association with the BBC.
